After reading about the Japanese ImaHima, just in time, just in place matching services, I wondered where this virtual networking community is heading to. Companies are blogging not only on corporate cultures but CEO's private lives, and mobile phone users are joining the virtual community with their full personal information. The biggest Japanese social networking site, Mixi, is gaining users rapidly after the IPO last year. People are getting used to type in all the information on the web page without noticing it. I notice many people putting their personal diaries on Mixi. The outcome of this is the personalized amazon.com web page which welcomes you with the recommended books listed on the front page, and comments from your peers who read your diaries.
System is bringing more and more private information into the public, making the website purely open, non-discriminatory and useful. After the IPO of Mixi, the stock price increased dramatically, realizing the monetary value of personal data.
Yes, anyone can take advantage of open system as Naked Conversation stated as, "participation age", however, users need to be smart enough to realize the database behind the system and what you are bargaining.

It's true that the blog does allow people to respond to one another in a more personal way. However - the most disconcerning is how personal is it going to get? You mentioned in your blog that people are monitoring the private lives of CEOs. This is wrong and headed towards tabloid exploitation. Having been married to a CEO my personal life was thrown into the public light and under attack. Where as a society do we draw the line and respect people enough to conduct their private lives - privately! Stephanie
I think it is interesting how these blogs have the potential to change the way that people view a company. With these blogs, people don't just learn about the company, but the important people affiliated with those companies. Knowing about a CEO or president may have both a negative or positive impact on a comany which is a problem that they did not have a few years ago.

I think what amazon does as far as page personalization and recommended items is genius. Sometimes I wish that other sites did the same. Do you think it's an invasion of privacy or it is crossing the line as far as internet and information security?
